About Matthew

I provide additional resources beyond just teaching the clarinet. Students will be exposed to materials that will help them become successful in their school music programs, too.

I enjoy watching students experience personal growth, regardless of what their ability level might be. It is rewarding when a student gets excited about achieving something they did not believe they could.

I started teaching right out of high school when my band director asked me to come back and run sectionals. From there I began networking and got on board with other local school music programs.

About the lesson

I usually begin with asking them about what they are currently learning, and then I assess them and try to give them resources to improve from their current level. This could take a few lessons so that we are sure the student is getting the materials they need.

I have worked with elementary, middle school, high school, and college level students. In addition, I have experience working with students who have special needs. Many have gone on to play in community groups!

Ask questions, take in as much information as you can, and be open to various teaching styles that may benefit you.

Performing a combined concert with Simi Valley High School and Moorpark College was a fun event. The audience was very complimentary of my high school students and their musical abilities and repertoire they performed.
