About Jocabed

I am a very energetic person and love to interact with others. I especially love to help others feel good about themselves and help them improve and master whatever topic they desire. Studying isn't fun for many people, and I understand why. I had to study constantly in undergraduate school and law school, so I understand how hard studying can be. However, I've learned effective tricks and tips that make it bearable. :)

I most enjoy getting to meet new people! Helping others gives me a great sense of joy and purpose.

I began to work with kids at the age of thirteen in church, teaching Sunday school classes. From there, I've worked with children through SYEP, and I was an after-school instructor for a Charter school. I taught the debate class and the girl's group class.

I graduated from the City College of New York with a bachelor's in Political Science. I also have my Juris Doctor from Cardozo School of Law with a concentration in Family & Children's Law.

I have worked with children before as an instructor and have experience creating lesson plans, study plans, schedules, etc. I also have a lot of knowledge about reading comprehension skills, test-taking skills, multiple-choice questions, short answer questions, and a lot more.

About the lesson

First, I like to introduce myself, and I will typically start with an icebreaker to make the student more comfortable. I also want to have a general understanding of the student's needs and their concerns and struggles. I ask my students to explain/describe to me what methods they think work best for them and what methods don't. After I have a general understanding of what the student needs, I like to create an attack plan with the help of the student. This way, we both know what to expect and plan for in the upcoming weeks.

My method stays the same, but I might ask questions and engage with the student differently depending on their age.

Details

Currently, I am charging $20 an hour. It might change depending on the level of work or preparation I need to do or the subject matter.

For example, a tutoring session on Family Law might be priced higher than 20 dollars an hour than a tutoring session about test-taking strategies.
