About Jeffrey

Hey, I’m Jeff!

I’m a professional Software Engineer working full time at a leading Fortune 100 company and I graduated from Northwestern University’s McCormick school of Engineering with a BS in Computer Science. I’ve spent the majority of my life in academia and used that time to streamline my learning process, slowly refining and optimizing my methods of becoming a life-long learner. Equal to my love of learning is my love for teaching. I was a teaching assistant (TA) for a number of courses in the Computer Science curriculum, including Data Structures & Algorithms as well as Intro to Programming, passing on not only my knowledge of the coursework but also my tools for success.

Outside of class, I worked at one of the most innovative labs on campus, Knight Lab, helping to develop new digital tools for the evolving journalism industry. I also gained technical experience through internships in Boston and Chicago. In my free time, I do freelance work through a creative digital studio that I started with a few long-time friends. Through our studio, we have worked with a few giants in the music industry, most recently designing and developing the mobile application for Lyrical Lemonade's 2019 Summer Smash music festival. I strive for convenience and thus have also worked on a few personal projects focused on automating the predictable parts of my life.

I know what it's like to struggle with courses and new concepts. I also know what it's like to switch majors and feel behind. These moments helped me enhance my vision for life-long learning by deconstructing my challenges and methodically determining how to best tackle challenging courses/concepts. My mission is to pass on not only my knowledge but also the tools I discovered for success. Seeing that I’m just out of school, I would like to extend myself not only as a resource for academics but also as an asset for personal and professional development. Acing that exam is important, but it only covers a small set of the skills you need to score that internship and post-grad job. Working together, we can help build the skills and thinking methods you need to excel in both your classes and future.

I started off as a teaching assistant at Northwestern! I really enjoyed the computer science courses I was taking and thought it would be fun to pass off the things I learned while taking those courses.

I like to start off new student sessions with introductions and creating a comfortable learning environment. Then, we talk through the material the student would like to cover and come up with a gameplan for getting through that material.

I've worked with students as young as 8 years old! I have spent more time with college-level students but can adapt to the situation.
