About Lars
I focus on the fundamentals of art primarily through drawing. In my mind art comes in two parts: creativity and technique. It is my goal to help both grow. I strive to spark curiosity and to help others on their creative path.
I am self-taught using a variety of resources and classes to gain my skills, taking classes at Art Center College of Art and Design, and Brainstorm School in Burbank, as well as volunteering to teach art at my former high school. I am also currently aiming towards a degree in Art Education and acquiring a teaching certification.
I mainly enjoy sharing what I've learned with others in the form of advice, resources, and techniques which provide a deeper understanding of art and how it's made. Seeing others learn and improve is what I enjoy most.
One day while I was in an illustration class I had a striking realization that I didn't want to become an illustrator. The work wasn't nearly enjoyable enough to me to make into a career. I realized what drew me to art was not the act of creating, but rather my passion for learning. From there I decided to make it my goal to become an art teacher.

In working with a new student, I ideally establish a goal to help guide the content of lessons moving forward. I mainly separate lessons into two types: projects, and exercises.
Exercises involve practicing art fundamentals and creativity, similar to how a musician may practice scales. Projects consist of an individual piece of art to complete utilizing learned skills while also implementing the student's interests and goals. They are meant to apply knowledge in a more enjoyable way.
I would highly recommend taking some time to think about what you, or your child, are looking for. It's important to find a teacher that fits your needs. Someone like myself would be best suited to teaching illustration, cartooning, and classical drawing, and may not be well suited for someone looking to learn abstract painting. Ideally, classes should be what I can do for you.
