About Giovanna

My experience as an artist, my capability to break things down simply, artwork and commitment level to each person on an individual basis is what stands out the most about me. I love working with all ages from elementary to latter teenage age years to adults. You will learn so much!

I love meeting new people, finding out what they want to learn to do and giving them the capability to do this independently of me. I teach them tons of shortcuts saving them time and money.

I graduated in art from Fairmont State University which back then was called Fairmont State College. I totally love people. I love working with them. I create a nurturing, fun, respectful and safe environment for all levels that focuses on the learning experience and getting results in your work. In otherwords any student that I undertake will have results. All that student has to do is try.

I have been an award winning art teacher for thirty-nine years. I have taught all levels of students from Kindergarten through College Level. We have a blast learning from each other. I have a Masters in Painting and Printmaking from VCU, my undergraduate work is from Fairmont State University in Fairmont, W.Va. I have taken extra classes from The Florence Academy of Art and the Torpedo Factory.

About the lesson

I interview them on what experiences they have had in art. This is basically to get an idea on their exposure and or actual practices. Once I understand the level that they are on, I find out what things they are interested in learning and what their personal goals are. Is it for interest and fun to learn something new or do they want to really develop skills to become competitive or to build a portfolio.

I have worked with all student types, all ethnicities, cultures, disabilities, strengths, weaknesses and levels. It is a wonderful experience to teach and learn about every individual. I value my relationships and am valued in return.

I would look always at the teacher's work to see what level of work they do. I take classes because I believe it keeps you fresh and it's fun to learn. It can give you a new perspective. I always check the teacher's style to see if it appeals to me, if they are better than me, if I would be challenged by it, how much work is current. I think meeting the teacher is essential. You'll know right away about their commitment, expertise and personality.

Many of my students have submitted their portfolios to schools and depending on the school, their major, and the meeting of specifications of scholarships, applied and received from one class or three credits up to four years of free college tuition. One of my students met GPA requirements, merit requirements but needed a portfolio which she submitted and received a free ride for four straight years.

Typically my price for private art lessons is 85.00. I base this on my years of experience as a teacher, education, awards and the personalized instruction that I give to my students. For this website I have an introductory price of 65.00 per hour plus a cost for supplies that I provide.
