About Felicia

I hold my BFA and MFA in Painting, have interned with professors at SCAD for Drawing and Color Theory, was an art professor for some time, and have managed business which gives me an edge on different learning personalities.

EVERYTHING! To see someone go from asking to answering questions--to see an artist find his or her creative voice and understand materials a little better each week--it all comes together and is so rewarding. It makes the world appear different to the creative mind. It is such a beautiful thing to be able to witness!

I spent years studying the ins and outs of the art world. I have six nephews whom I taught creative outlets to as soon as they could hold a pencil, dance, or tell stories.

I have my BFA and MFA with concentrations in painting. I have taught children and college level students (ages from 18-55). Patience, encouragement, and critique are important in the process (on both ends), as are mutual respect and a willingness to learn.

About the lesson

I am new to one-on-one teaching, but have experienced many group settings. It is important to understand one another, what the student wants to learn and achieve and what I am capable of providing.

I believe in the power of warming up the eye and allowing it to collaborate with the hand. Learning how to see is key, then it's all building up technique through practice and guided experimentation to put one's own spin on the work.

I've taught Montessori (ages 2-4), and I've taught college art students (18-54 [SO FAR!])--all genders, all races, all backgrounds, all types of knowledge. EVERYONE deserves to expand and use his or her voice.

Details

I charge hourly, at a flat rate, but this rate may increase or decrease depending on the student's personal needs. I keep a spreadsheet for all lessons, just as I do for commissions. It keeps everything fair.
