About Heather

I'm a multi skilled professional who understands what it's like to be apprehensive about trying something new- art can be intimidating! I'm patient and am willing to work diligently with a variety of skill levels, and I can teach you how to flex your creative muscle!

I am passionate about art and creative thinking, and I love sharing that with other people, especially in a way that encourages them to grow in the area. I enjoy seeing people gain confidence in their skill levels and build the ability to use art as a stable an emotional and creative outlet on their own.

I have 4 years of formal art training from Houston Baptist University under artist like Michael Collins, Marie Valdez, and Hans Molzberger.

I have taught art in gallery settings, early learning centers and one on one, via both in person and virtual.

I have shown pieces of my own in venues like galleries, wineries and schools.

About the lesson

We start off by finding out what style of art you enjoy, and what subjects you like to paint or draw. From there we go step by step to make a new masterpiece, while I give you lessons on how to look at the subject, and understand things like color theory, so you can understand the skills and ideas behind making art. I end the lesson with offering an independent assignment for the student to work on in their free time to develop the skills we went over. If the student returns, the next lesson I ask to see the assignment to gauge growth.

I have worked with all types of students, aged 2 all the way up to 53, however most have been mainly children and teens. I've taught disabled individuals, special needs children, people who were compete beginners and people who already had some skill.

Don't be afraid to ask for clarification when they are explaining things! Start looking at colors and how they go together, and begin to notice what things you see that look "right" and that look "off". Draw from real life, as it will help you break the rules later!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask your teacher what style of art they do, how long it takes to compete a piece with them, if they draw everything before hand or if they just paint and go. Ask yourself what you want to get from the experience and how you deal with failure- because art has a lot of perceived failure. It can be challenging when you draw something and it looks better than what you did before, but not what you wanted exactly, so come with a clear head space and an attitude that you want to enjoy the process.

$25 per one hour lesson for in person lessons in my area (Price negotiable for traveling outside that due to mileage).

$15 per person, for two hour lesson in person for group lessons. (Price negotiable for traveling outside my area due to mileage)

$20 for one hour virtual lesson via Skype, Snapchat or other platform of your choosing.

$70/Month for 8 virtual lessons, critiques and independent assignments to help grow your skills.
