About Johnny

We will talk a lot about what you are hoping to achieve with your paintings and how we can get you there. I will provide examples of great work tailored to what you are interested in. I will make sure that you are learning everything you need to in the most fun and supportive way possible. You will not only become a better artist, but learn to appreciate the world around you to a greater degree through better understanding of what you are seeing around you every day.

I love showing people how to get more enjoyment out of looking and understanding the world around them better. It is one of the key components to becoming a great painter. I love opening up a student's eyes to work they have never seen before and inspiring them to aim high with their own paintings. I love interacting with all kinds of different people, and teaching them all to enjoy the thing that I live my whole life for; painting.

I have a BFA in printmaking and MFA in painting from CU Boulder. I have taught painting classes through museums, non-profit organizations, universities, and independently for 7 years. I have taught many people to paint, to see, and understand how to express their thoughts with paint.

About the lesson

First I like to talk with them about what brought them to painting, and figure out how I can best help them in their goal of learning to paint. I like to lay out a long term lesson plan, and talk about the correlation between time spent practicing and growth in skill. Ideally we figure out how much time the student has to spend painting each week and determine a plan based on their schedule.

I have worked with children, young adults, college students and adults, in a variety of capacities.

Details

Beginner lessons are generally $70 for a 2 hour lesson (I do not recommend a shorter lesson than 2 hours, but make exceptions). Each hour after that is $30. I like to meet once per week or once every two weeks depending on availability.
