About Sheila

The Life & Work Of Artist Sheila Aguilar

There is much to be said of the skill and vision of artist Sheila Aguilar in Mattapoisett, MA. She spent her childhood in the Cape Cod marsh and marina community of Sandwich, MA. As a 29-year-old fine artist, she has spent her entire life immersed in the craft of creating paintings and images of her home and life.

Artist's Education

Sheila spent eight years studying with a mentor who taught her drawing and painting techniques with multiple mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, oil paint, charcoal, and pastels. She was accepted into an art internship through the Cape Cod Museum of Art during her junior year in high school and then again as a senior. During her internship, Sheila worked closely with two well-established professional artists. She also learned to stretch her own canvases and honed her talent with different painting techniques.

Art That Inspires

As an artist, Sheila Aguilar is skilled at blending colors on the canvas to create flow and texture in her original paintings. One of her largest pieces is an acrylic on canvas still life, which measures 36" x 48". Her pomegranate still life in oil received Honorable Mention from the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, MA. She was a member and past-president of the National Art Honors Society.

Sheila was inspired to design a large mural in the new children's facility of the public library. She collaborated with her art teacher, Mr. Rigazio, and local artist Jackie Reeves. Approximately a dozen local students of the art program completed the library mural, and it was a resounding success. This mural was just one of many community service projects Sheila was involved in, and she is sure it won't be the last. Her drive to create stems from her desire to leave the world a better place than she found it.

About the lesson

I like to email some information to my new students to give them the basics of what we do in class. I also like to talk to New students on the phone for 10 minutes to get a feel for how comfortable the student is creating art. J
