About Grace

I paint, I sculpt, I draw, I have also done and taught printmaking. I have taught people of all ages to learn about how to draw in a museum setting. I can give critiques on what is working and what needs work. I have been professionally painting and making art for 10 years now. I went to the Art Institute of Boston and graduated in 2013. I studied Fine Art with an Art History minor. Since then I have worked at 6 different museums in various roles. I am a visual learner and can explain to you visually how to create something 3D to 2D or vice versa. I am very patient and helpful. I will work with you to practice and improve your skills. I believe being good at art takes A LOT of practice and listening to multiple instructors for them to really get you to see what you are looking at and trying to recreate that with art. I enjoy the making of art and creating bright and fluid colors. I am a still life painter and I strive to recreate vibrant colors that are made because of the intensity of light on an object or landscape. I enjoy choosing subject matter and the intital steps of creating a new painting.

I was an art educator at an art museum for 3 years where I taught people of all ages in various classes in, outside, and even in our galleries of the museum.

About the lesson

I like to see how they work, what they enjoy, their background in the subject, “where they’re at”, are they a visual learner or how do they learn best by watching me or by working together (which I implement both). I have never taught with someone not in front of me but I don’t believe it will be a problem. I like challenges and I’m tech savvy! I hope the student will be comfortable to share questions they have about how to improve their art making.

Hello! I would prefer a student that is somewhat new to art or painting. Some experience is great too (high school age or older, really any age!). I prefer to teach drawing or someone interested in getting started with watercolor or oil painting (strictly and not acrylic paint). I would recommend being committed to this new skill and interest. It would be great for you to take it seriously but not too serious. Being a perfectionist can hinder artwork, you want to learn and not hold yourself back which I have seen with people new to art. Do your own research outside of this platform whether it be diving into YouTube videos, taking out books to research, copying artwork, or just experimenting/playin/practicing at home. I will give you “homework” to work on for the next time we “meet.” What you put into it, the more you will get

out of it!

One of my favorite things to do is visit museums. I recently visited the Worcester Art Museum for the first time with my best friend. We hit up the museum shop and loved walking around seeing artwork! We tried on metal helmet armor in the interactive areas and took silly pictures. It was a great day and a lovely new experience for both of us art lovers.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
When starting out it’s easy to ask open ended questions or statements like “I’m not good at art, can you help?” Which is fine to say, but if you can verbalize more about what exactly it is you need help with. Like you struggle with figures or maybe you’re just starting out but what kind of direction in subject or theme would you like to see yourself go in after getting some basics down?
