About Elizabeth

I love to help others learn and develop their skills within arts. I’m currently a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology earning my BFA in Illustration, and afterwards I plan on obtaining a degree in teaching as well. Creating lessons for a one-on-one environment is something I’m especially good at, as I can create a plan catered to the students needs. I specialized in drawing and painting, however I’ve taught crafts in a classroom environment for around yeast prior.

Art is anything and everything! It’s never one thing- painting, drawing, dancing, music; anything is art if you have a passion of it. I love that the world is art. I take creative visions and bring them to life through visual and sculptural aspects of art, and seeing that happen is more than magical.

I started in the Micheal’s classroom. Working at Micheal’s was my first retail job, and soon I was working almost exclusively in the classroom. I realized I really loved teacher and helping others find a skill and passion they enjoy doing. I knew I was going to be an artist from the beginning of looking into a professional career, and sharing that skill and passion with others is something I find especially rewarding.

I’ve previously taught crafts and hosted birthday parties in the Micheal’s classroom for around a year. I typically worked with children ages 4-10. This past summer I worked at The Art Farm in the upper east side, I taught crafts and other art projects to children ages 6-10. Please contact me for references.

About the lesson

First, determine thier current skill level through some basic drawing techniques and past art. Then go from there in developing lessons for them.

There’s no one way to learn. If a teacher tells you that you’re doing it all wrong and there’s only one way to do it, then you should find a new teacher. Art comes in so many ways, shapes, and forms- to say there’s only one way is insulting to the craft.

Two semesters ago I was working on one of my finals during my thanksgiving family party- a surrealist emotion portrait. One of my little cousins, Noel, wanted to join me drawing and I gladly scooted over on the couch. I handed her some paper and markers and we drew together. I gave her tips on how to improve her drawings and she told me she loved it and wanted to keep practicing. She was 7 at the time.

Details

Generally around 30$ an hour, materials are not included and will need to be acquired on your own. I will provide a list if needed after determining the child’s skill level.
