About Lynn

I am an Artist and Teacher and have taught many people (children and adults) to creatively learn the use of watercolor and acrylic paints and drawing basics, for 20 years.

My beginning classes include color mixing and theory, the use of water-based paints, experimentation, brush strokes, and composing and developing personal ideas for paintings. Paints are luscious and beautiful things. Knowing how to use the mediums gives one control over what and how to develop skills to paint with.

Drawing concepts and basics are also a part of ongoing classes to help one to see color and shape and composition of the shapes and forms in objects they want to depict.

I love painting in its infinite possibilities. I am in love with color and enjoy helping people master the mediums of water-based paint and drawing concepts. I love encouraging a playful creative appraoch to painting and drawing, bypassing the often limiting inner critic to free up inside to learn and grow with enjoyment. I especially love presenting color mixing and simple color theory classes. Yummy!

I got started teaching when I worked with children in day care and after school settings. As I completed many college courses in painting and drawing, I brought much of what I learned in college and brought it to the young people I worked with, gearing to age -appropriate levels. I also taught beginning level drawing and painting classes for adults at Community Centers. I made up the classes based on a synthesis of what my favorite teachers taught to me in College and also based on my passion for Art and working with people. My work with children helps me to befirend the vulnerable or latent inner child that also lives in adults, a source of immense creativity and enthusiasm for learning new things.

I have a BA in Art and Social Sciences. The degree has helped me immensely in working with people and art over the past 30 years.

My primary work ended up being with children and I have owned and operated a small business called Art Enrichment for Kids, and became a popular "extra-curricular" art teacher.

Classes for adults has also been something I have taught many times. I am inspired by painting and seeing the world through creative eyes and I like to help students develop that sight and their skills in painting and drawing.

I believe that hands-on Art is a great balance to a world of technology and intellectual input. It helps one develop another side of themselves , their creative self that exists in everyone. The process of making art is relaxing and a wonderful way to concentrate and focus the mind and heart together.

About the lesson

I first like to get to know what level a student is at, whether a complete beginner or with some experience in painting and drawing, as an adult or from childhood.

That helps me know where we should begin together. Students with some experience usually have an idea of where they want to go in lessons, what skills they want to develop.

I invite new beginning level students to relax and have fun exploring the world of paint . I have enjoyable exercises to facilitate learning the new mediums in a creative way that helps bypass the student's inhibitions or self-critic , so that we can move into a creative exploration together.

I have worked with children and adults, taching classes in Community Centers and privately. Both mixed media and painting and drawing classes.

Get a sense of what the student is hoping to learn or do in Art lessons. Find the type of class and teacher that can address that desire. Someone with relevant experience and a good personable personality.
