About Dawn

As a professional artist since age 16, I have a lot of experience in selling and creating arts and crafts of various media and styles to be marketable to the public as well as to satisfy the artistic soul. As a former credentialed high school Glass art, Art and Design teacher, a preschool teacher, and after school art program instructor, I enjoy teaching any age and skill level how to use materials and techniques in imaginative ways that meet the standards of the elements and principles of design. I am well versed in a variety of mediums from pen and ink to the complexity and chemistry of working with glass. I am a current member of the Buenaventura Art Association and show my work in my own studio, as well as at the Ventura Harbor Gallery and Gifts. I started teaching an after school art program while I was in college getting my art degree. I was also hired by the California Art Spark program to teach art lessons that meet the VAPA standards with a limited budget. From there I decided to formally get a Secondary Subject Creditial in Art to become a public school teacher.

I have a Bachelors in Fine with consentrations in 2-D and 3-D arts, as well as experience teaching many different ages and skill levels, in a variety of materials.

About the lesson

Upon meeting a new student, I like have them do a quick drawing of something simple or show me work that have done in the past so I can see what their skill level is or what their past experience may be, so I can adjust lessons according to skill level and interests.

I have worked with and enjoy working with students of all ages from preschool to senior citizen. I welcome students with disablities and a varied skill levels and can modifiy lessons to meet the needs of different dissabilies and gifted abilities.

Any student needs to find a teacher that inspires them creatively and challenges them enough to learn something new outside their typical comfort level. An instructor must also be flexible to adjust their lessons around the student's needs.

One of the highlights of my career as teacher, was teaching a severely autistic, non-verbal teen how to make collage art. This particular student previous to my classes had never created art before. By playing certain music and providing him with the right materials he began to make the most beautiful and intricate expressive drawings of everyday objects.

Details

The average cost per lesson is $30 an hour. The price goes up or down depending on if I provide the materials or if the student will purchase them. The length of the lesson or number of people being taught a lesson at once.
