About Jack

Hi everyone,

My name is Jack and I have been playing drums for 18 years. I have played live music for 13 years and taught folks ages 6 to 46. I can teach beginner through intermediate drumset and percussion. While at University, I spent a significant amount of my time studying pedagogy and applying it to music instruction.

My teaching style is adaptable depending on what students want out of lessons and what they best respond to. I am able to teach a variety of techniques and use creative exercises to help students develop their own voice while keeping practice interesting. I can teach Rock, Jazz, Funk, Metal, Latin, and Percussion styles.

My favorite part of teaching is providing the support the student needs to improve. I enjoy seeing when something clicks during the week-to-week improvement.

I started out teaching informally when I was learning growing up. I would play with friends and teach other members of bands how to play drums in exchange for informal guitar lessons.

I studied education in University and have 7 years of teaching experience related to drums specifically.

About the lesson

I first like to see what their goals are and adapt our approach to the student goals. I make sure that I find out their favorite bands, styles, and drummers to potentially give some applicable listening practice for each week as well. Eventually I like to discuss their long-term approach to learning, practice, and how their personality type influences how they approach the instrument.

I have worked with students with a variety of temperments and skill levels. My youngest student was 6 and my oldest student was 46.

Go with your gut. If you don't like a certain teacher you can find another teacher that makes you feel good about playing and practicing.

Details

My standard pricing system is 25 for a half hour and 50 for an hour. I understand the website will take an overhead cost out of that rate but I can be flexible about pricing because it is about the drums at the end of the day.
