About Drum
Drum is a lifelong percussionist, starting with concert band in elementary school and progressing through jazz and marching band, before embracing a more extracurricular music scene. From then he played in bands spanning numerous genres from hip hop and industrial, to bluegrass, punk, funk, blues, soul, death metal, and good old rock n’ roll! He brings over 25 years of performance and practice on the drums, along with over 15 years of teaching experience, to help you keep the beat like the drums are an instrument, not just a pulse.
HOW will these lessons help me to improve?
We practice standing up and pay close attention to our hands. Everything we practice is constantly reinforced by the click of the metronome. It seems counterintuitive that practicing in this fashion will improve your ability to play sitting at a drum set with other musicians, but it is the absolute truth! As your hands become more accustomed to this style of practice, you’ll find your arms are doing less work on the kit: Why? Because once your hand is in position, any multitude of beats can be played without needing to move your whole arm. Efficiency turns to speed, precision, and endurance, to keep you going on beat.
I started teaching casually in high school to friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. I opened a store front formally offering drum lessons in 2009.
