About Terry
My excitment stems from your steady growth. Drumming and learning how to move your hands is a diffcult but rewarding task. It doesnt matter how long it takes, I will get you to where you want to be. I have taught for the last 12 years at my old high school and performed with the SDSU Marching Aztecs in their drumline and saw how much fun drumming in all aspects can really be. After a tragic accident I had which led to a weakening in my left hand/arm I still continued to practice!
I love showing people what keeps me happy. A lot people always tell me "I wish I could do that." I want to be able to show them they can. It takes work but its always possible
My high school had been in and out of instructors to teach so while my brief time at San Diego State learning my craft I had also begun student teaching until I was hired on full time later on.
10+ Years of teaching experience from Monte Vista High School (Spring Valley, CA) Under 2 different directors
Performed with the San Diego State University Marching Aztecs on Snare and Cymbals for 3 different years
Multiple high schools in the GUHSD, San Diego Unified, and SweetWater district in San Diego, CA

Figuring our previous skill level and if they have the proper materials to begin the lesson. Afterward, whether they are a complete beginner in music and have to learn to read first or if they already have some experience, the first thing I always want to review is technique. Then after we have established a good core concept of why the technique is important, we can continue with exercises.
I have worked with students of all ages. Some who knew how to read but not play well, and those who could play very well but not read. I have also taught students with autism, ADD, and ADHD.
Stay patient and committed. Drumming is hard. A lot of us who have been playing for years make it look easy. But it took hours, days, weeks, months, years worth of practice for us to get to where we are.
