About Nathaniel

Nathaniel Holman is a Chicago based percussionist. As an active performer, his collaborations with musical groups in the area have ranged from Camerata Chicago, The Fox Valley Orchestra, the Wheaton College Artist Series, to the Chicago Brass Band. He has been a featured soloist with the Fox Valley Concert Band, professionally premiered new solo and ensemble works, is an active member of the Heartland Marimba organization after touring with the Heartland Marimba Ensemble in 2019, and is a semi-finalist in the International Bamberg Marimba Competition. Outside of performance, Nathaniel has a passion for pedagogy, and has teaching privately and in groups for 6+ years. As a guest clinician with multiple schools, he seeks to build artistry through community. He holds a BM in percussion performance from Wheaton College (IL) and will have completed his Master of Music from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee in the spring of 2021. These accomplishments are not done for myself, but done in order for me to give back to my community. My lessons are not just to get you better at music, but to invest in you as a person as well

Seeing students untap their potential is what drives me to do what I do. Having studied with a multitude of world leading percussionists, I not only have the tools to address all facets of percussion but the passion to do so. My students are my life and I love to invest in them as not just musicians, but people as well.

II Have studied with a multitude of leading percussionists. This has given me an extremely well rounded and experienced approach to my pedagogy. While at Wheaton, I studied percussion with Dr. Kathleen Kastner and Mike Folker as well as drum set under Lucas Gillan. During my time at The Boston Conservatory, I spent time learning under Nancy Zeltsman, Sam Solomon, and Doug Perkins. I have also taken multiple lessons with Kataryzna Mycka (Polish marimba virtuoso), Svet Stoyanov (Frost School of Music), and Conrado Moya (Spanish Marimba Virtuoso) and hves participated in masterclasses and other lessons with the following: Ivana Bilic, Jack Van Geem (San Fransisco Conservatory), Nanae Mimura (Japan, PAS Solo Artist winner), Mike Truesdell (Ithaca College, TROMP 2nd place), Jean Geoffrey (Lyon National Superior Conservatory), Amy Garapic (TORQUE), Pedro Carniero (International Soloist), Juan David Ferero (Colombia), Michael Kozakis (DePaul University), Filip Mercep (Austria), and Haruka Fuji (Silkroad Ensemble).

About the lesson

No one student is the same, mentally or physically. My first step is to meet them where they are and understand their background and tendencies. From their, I currate a curriculum unique to them so they get the education that is most suited for them.
