About Molly

I have been teaching for my entire professional career -for about 20 years. I earned an M.S. degree and a New Hampshire state teaching certification for Middle and High School science in 2008. For the last decade, I have been using my teaching experience and education in my independent tutoring business, pimarily for students at a college preparatory boarding school in New Hampshire where my husband (who teaches English) and I live with three school aged children.

Although I have tutored middle and high school students in nearly every subject, I often tutor students with paper and essay writing. I enjoy helping students improve their writing skills. I have also focused on ACT and SAT test preparation and helping students with the sometimes daunting process of applying to college.

I have many tutoring references from the last 10 years. Please get to know more about me at (concealed information)

I began with leading backpacking trips, which evolved into teaching natural history. That then led me to earning a position at a highly selective program where I took high school students out West for 10 weeks during a traveling high school program.

When I settled down to start my family in 2008, I earned my M.S. and teaching certificate and have been tutoring students privately since then.

I typically ask students to identify where they feel that they need the most help. I try to also identify strengths and build on those strenghts in order to build confidence. I will often ask students for their course materials, including assignments and rubrics, so I can be clear what the instructor is looking for and how to best help my students identify how they can be successful in the class

Most recently, I have worked with high school students with some sort of learning difference (ADHD, dyslexia) who attend an independent boarding school.

Earlier in my career, I ran outreach and after-school programs with elementary school aged kids and worked as a camp counselor in the summers.

I think it is important that you connect personally with a tutor that you hire. Tutors not only need to know their subject matter, but should also interesting and fun for you to meet with. I also think that choosing a tutor with more than a few years of experience is worth its weight in gold.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A tutor is an academic coach, per se. How much do you want this person to push you and hold you accountable and challenge you to put forth your best work and effort?

Are there specific areas that challenge you and if so, what are those?

Are there patterns in what kind of feedback you have received from previous teachers? Do you agree with their feedback and how you might improve academically?
