About Kelly
My personal experience comes from both being a Special Needs Mom and from working as a Significant Severe Needs Paraprofessional for going on 5 years now. I have worked in a High school, Elementary, and currently a Middle School during this time.
I understand that every student, not just Special Education students, learn differently and therefore may need a little more support in some areas in order to be successful. When we teach our students and give them the tools to be successful in the ways they learn, they can sprout wings and soar to new heights.
I have an Associates in Arts Degree with a focus on Education and Psychology. This is my first time tutoring, however I feel the skills I have developed as a Para give me experience in areas and in ways that can benefit any student who needs it.
I want to give students, every student a chance to see and reach their individual potential. My life changed because of some amazing teachers who went above and beyond when I was a kid. I want to give that same opportunity to every student and to make a difference their lives.
I wanted to be a teacher since 8th grade (over 20 years ago) since that time I have had two kids, both with special needs, with my oldest being a severe needs student. I got started as a Special Education Para, supporting students needs 5 years ago in a high school supporting both Special Ed students and students outside of the Special Education Department. I then moved to an Elementary School where i continued to work as a SSN Para and now a Middle School where I do the same.
There are students who need support, more than most. But I've also seen the need for support for all students in all grades. Teaching is a passion of mine and always will be. While I might be a Para, I know I also make a huge difference.
I have an Associates Degree in Arts.
I have worked as an SSN Para for going on 5 years. (Severe Significant Needs/Special Education)
I have worked in High school, Elementary (mostly with students between K-3) and now Middle School.

Every student learns differently. No two students are the same. As such, I like to talk with parents and the student (if possible), see what their needs are, what their struggles are and if there are any learning difficulties or special needs that I need to be aware of before starting. I want to make sure I am able to tailor my services per student. I also would like to know the level of commitment from both parent and students as well.
Also if I am working on specifics like homework, I would like to know what we are working on, what the teachers expectations are and the specific of the assignments.
I have worked with Severe Needs Students, who work way below their levels. I have also worked with Mild to Moderate Students, these are students who work at close the same level as their peers, but still need some form of support. I have also worked with students who are not apart of the Special Ed population and department, providing support as needed in the classroom.
Be committed. Show up for sessions on time and if there is a need to cancel, take responsibilty to do so in a timely manner. Also do your part in your learning. It doesn't matter how much I help you, if you don't do your part, then nothing I do will make a difference. Read and do your assignments your teachers give you, pay attention in class and in sessions with me, take notes, speak up if something isn't working or you still are struggling with something. Particupate and be honest with yourself, with me, with your parents and with your teachers.
At the position that I am in now, I get to run classes via zoom for a student per my lead teacher request. I have only known this student for a short time, but I have enjoyed watching them engage with me and particupate in the learning with me as they continue to grow in their own learning at their level.
