About Ashley
I am a college student (Columbia College Chicago) majoring in both Musical Theatre and Creative Writing. I have a 3.87 GPA. After I graduate, in 2021, I will be going on to acquire my masters degree in English Education. I am highly knowledgeable and excellent with children and teens of all ages. Along with being a tutor, I nanny, which contributes to my understanding of child development, child education, and overall communication with children and young adults. I have been an in person tutor for five years for many different subjects, but I am hoping to focus in on English as my career goal is to be a high school English teacher. I love working with kids and I have a passion for what I do. I believe that my age is a benefit (early 20s), as children tend to be more receptive when they are learning from someone closer to their age, or someone they feel they can relate to.
I have been studying creative writing specifically for four years and I have been published many times in numerous educational magazines through Columbia College Chicago. I was a tutor in Columbia College Chicago’s English department for college level writers for a year, i have now left that position to be a nanny for three children (ages 1, 7, and 12). Being a nanny has improved my skills as a tutor for children of all ages drastically.

I like to take 10-15 minutes to get to know my student. Their interests, likes, and dislikes when it comes to school and extra curriculars. This helps me better direct my approach to being an interesting, fun, and affective tutor. From there, I like to jump right in! This way, I can gage for myself where the student is, and together we can create goals to work towards in our tutoring sessions.
Find someone who is a good fit for you or your child. A lesson should not be something you dread, if you find the right person, learning and accomplishing the goals you put in place should be fun, or at least feel good.
