About Samantha

Hi, I'm Samantha Bateman, a tutor eager to help students achieve their goals. Whether they are hoping to improve their writing skills, gain fuller understanding in English class, score highly on the PSAT/ACT/SAT/SSAT/SATII/AP, or write the college essay that gets them into their dream school, I am ready to help. At Milton Academy, I worked as the Head of the Writing Tutor Program, and I spent over 30+ hours tutoring some of the nation's top students in critical essay writing, personal essay writing, and grammar. I've studied many key texts in English and American Literature, and with this base knowledge of literature, I am equipped to advise students with any elementary, middle, or high school curriculum. Having studied learning theory, I am familiar with the range and potential improvement each student has and am capable of helping students set and reach their goals. As I plan to attend college as an English major in the fall, I am excited to share the tips to effective college application essays which helped me land admission to selective schools such as Columbia University, The University of Chicago, University of Michigan, Boston College, and Georgetown University. If test-taking is standing in the way, I'm happy to guide you through the process which can be made easy with the right advice. I scored a 1540 on the SAT, a 5 on the AP Literature test, and a 790 on the SAT Literature Subject test, and I'm looking forward to making your test-taking process just as smooth.

As a student myself, I am intimately acquainted with the potential challenges and revelations to be had when studying English or improving one's writing. Through my tutoring experience, I've learned to ask questions of my tutees which push them to add depth and structure to their arguments, bring up possible counter-arguments, and ask them to base their arguments more closely in the text. I take care to set goals with my tutees, a process which allows us to track their improvement and celebrate their every win. Whether seeing a student conquer a tricky grammar concept or finally express his/herself in an effective college essay draft, I delight in seeing my tutees improve. With empathy and optimism, I will make your tutoring experience the best it can be.
