About Lynn

I provide 1-1 tutoring in English/language arts in grades 3-11 remotely. English tutoring includes reading, writing, grammar, and spelling. I also offer an Open Roads class. Students discover their interests and become a first-hand inquirer investigating a self-selected topic just like a professional. They go beyond consuming information to creating information. The tools and resources are at their fingertips with endless possibilities. Independent study of a topic reinforces critical thinking skills, research skills, and communication skills. The best part is this opportunity is student driven!

I love grammar! It isn't always good dinner conversation, but I can help students build their grammar skills. Correct grammar is necessary in speaking, writing, and school!

The best part of my job is when the student gets that "light bulb" look in their eyes. That's when I know they "get it". Once they feel successful, then we have Academic Development!

Teaching has always been my passion and majored in English/education. I also have a Masters in gifted ed.

I have 26 years teaching ELA in public schools. I taught grades 6-11 and provided enrichment activities in grades K-12. I have been tutoring grades K-11 for the past four years both remotely and in person.

About the lesson

The most important aspect of tutoring and teaching is making a connection with the student. It is important for me to get to know the student and their academic needs. One way to achieve this is by learning what the student's interests and learning styles are. That makes it much easier for me to create successful lessons and keep the student focused.

I have worked with a whole range of abilities. I spent three years teaching at an alternative school. Students were high school drop outs including adults and gang members.

In public schools I have taught remedial to honors classes.

My favorite event was a Schoolwide Enrichment fair I organized. After implementing Schoolwide Enrichment, elementary students worked with community mentors and showcased their work at a fair. Parents, teachers, and community members were able to see how the students investigated a chosen topic and the outcome.
