My service stands out because I am passionate about tutoring and teaching, and have a lot of work experience as a teaching assistant, mentor, and tutor. I have been a TA for three summers in a row, mentoring students in grades 3rd through 12th. I worked as a writing tutor during college, helping students to view writing as a process and to gain skills that will apply to writing in the future, not just to one specific assignment. I recently graduated with a B.A. in English with honors.

I will soon start a position as a full-time undergraduate writing tutor, so tutoring is something I'm serious about. I know how to work with all kinds of learners and make accommodations for each students' specific needs. I genuinely love working with students and would love to be a tutor for you.

I enjoy seeing students overcome their academic challenges and gain confidence in their abilities. Sometimes, students who are struggling in certain areas become insecure about their perceived weaknesses, but I love when students see that once they receive the proper assistance they need and deserve, they really are just as smart as anyone else.

I enjoy learning about how each student thinks so I can undertsand how best to help them. When students start to get excited about learning, I feel I've done my job well.

I have worked as an undergraduate writing tutor for 1.5 years, and took a semester-long seminar course called Teaching and Tutoring Writing to train for this role. I have recently graduated with a B.A. in English with honors, and will soon start a position as a full-time undergraduate writing tutor.

In the past, I've worked as a summer school T.A. for three summers in a row.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I start off by getting to know them, their learning style, academic strengths and weaknesses, and if there is anything in specific they'd like to work on (e.g. a specific assignment, style of writing, skill, concept, reading strategies, etc.)

If possible, I ask to see the student's syllabus or course schedule to understand the teacher's expectations and the course's goals in terms of what skills and knowledge students are expected to walk away with.

After learning about the individual student and the course or subject they would like help with, I can create a plan of supplemental activities that will help the student achieve their goals.
