About Karissa
I want to help students reach their academic goals. Students deserve a teacher that makes their education a priority. When students feel that their teacher cares about their success they are more likely to apply themselves. I adjust to a students learning style so they have the best chance to understand the material. I have tutored in the past in college level chemistry. This experience gave me insight on how others learn. Sometimes just going over the material isn't enough for the student to fully grasp the concept. In these cases I have found that hands on approaches work best because they engage the student more. Students require a teacher that understands how to cater to their particular learning style. I am currently a college student at J. Sargeant Reynolds and will graduate in 2021. In addition to graduating, I will be transfering to Virginia Commonweath University where I will be majoring in forensic science.
I started tutoring two semesters ago when i had a particularly difficult professor and my lab partners began struggling to keep up with the material.

I like to get to know the students personality because once a relationship is established the student feels more comfortable asking questions. Additionally, once i know the students interests i can find ways to incorporate their hobbies into the study plan.
I have worked with college students.
My advise to students looking for tutors is to find a tutor with a personality that doesn't clash with yours because conflict isn't conducive for a productive learning environment.
An event I am fond with is during a study session i held for a few fellow college students. When i began tutoring them they were struggling to grasp the material. As the sessions continued they began to be more self reliant on their own knowledge and ask questions less frequently. This is memory i hold close to my heart because it is my first success in tutoring. Additionally, my goal as a tutor is to get the students to a point in their education where they no longer require my assistance.
