About Douglas

After being an ordained Anglican Pastor for years, I am able to tutor students in various subjects in an encouraging and compassionate manner. I've also been a professional creative writer/actor.

I love to help people accomplish their goals.

I taught adult education classes and youth group classes for over twenty years in churches.

Besides helping to encourage students through my pastoral skills, my training in English and Acting at New York University can help students in writing and public speaking. My masters degree from Trinity School for Ministry further helps students in those areas. I also can help in basic areas of math for middle school students.

About the lesson

I try to find out what they need by asking them how they think I can provide the best help for them. I also try to find out if they have any fears or frustrations concerning the subject matter and instill confidence in them by encouraging them in each small step of improvement. As they gain more confidence in a safe learning environment, they can start to see their improvement.

Teens through adults in church settings.

Besides making sure the tutor knows the subject matter, find out if the tutor communicates well and if the student feels comfortable in their initial interactions. If the student doesn't connect to the tutor, they should find someone else.

I loved to see my four-year-old daughter learn to write her name for the first time and to see her start to learn how to read new words.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think it would be good to discuss their needs with their parent/s first and maybe include their parent in the initial interview to make sure they both feel comfortable with the tutor.
