About Magen

Hello! I am a former certified New York State teacher with a bachelor's degree in Childhood and Early Childhood Education (birth to grade 6). I taught literacy (phonics, reading, writing, etc.) to young children for four years and led my own classroom for three years. (I taught Kindergarten and PreKindergarten.)

I have stepped away from teaching to pursue social media and website coordination, but am still interested in tutoring part-time.

Although I prefer to teach reading and writing, I am most definitely willing to branch out and help with math - up to grade 2.

Once I graduated from college with my teaching degree, my husband and I moved to Maine, as he was in the military. My first teaching job was at a daycare. I taught preschool aged children for about a year and a half. My husband and I were then called to Connecticut where I got my first gig as a classroom teacher. I loved it! I was a long-term substitute to some pretty adorable kindergarten kiddos. Once that job ended, I was hired back by the school as an interventionist - I worked with small groups of students who needed extra help in reading, writing, and math. My love for small group instruction grew and grew and it led me here!

I received my bachelor's degree in childhood education and have my New York State teaching certificate. I also have been teaching children (K-2nd grade) for the past 4 years.

2. Expectations - I expect punctuality, commitment, and hard work. What do you expect from me?

3. Game plan - What do we need to work on? How often should we meet?

4. Execute - Let's put our plans into action and begin to learn!

From student teaching to leading my own classroom I have interacted with many diverse students!

I have experience working with students who struggle academically as well as behaviorally. I've also worked with "highflyers" who needed more of a challenge in their day to day learning. I've worked with English language learners and students who simply required a little extra push in their academics.

My greatest piece of advice is to find someone who loves teaching. If your teacher doesn't love teaching, there's no way he or she will make it fun. Find someone who can meet your needs academically and still make learning fun for you. My biggest goal is to foster a love for learning in every one of my students. When you love what you do, it's no longer a chore.

What am I struggling with? How do I learn best?

Is this teacher going to be a good fit for me?

Will he or she be comfortable to work with?

Will he or she push me to be the best I can be?

Will I be held accountable in my learning? Do I want to be held accountable in my learning?
