About Drew
I build trusting relationships with students and families while maintaining high expectations so that we enjoy our work together while also accomplishing our shared goals.
I enjoy seeing students realize their potential, become confident in the work they are doing, and use that confidence to take on new and exciting challenges.
I started teaching when I was in 8th grade. I was a "cross-age tutor" for the neighboring elementary school. I worked witha first grade teacher to help her run her classroom, help students, and grade papers. I loved every minute of it.
After having several great, and some not so great, teachers in high school, I saw the difference a great teacher could make on a student, and I knew I wanted to become one.
Once I entered college, I focused my efforts on teaching, and after completing my student teaching at Capistrano Valley High School in Orange County, CA, I took a full time position at a local high school. I had never been happier, and the rest is history!

It is important to first build trust with a new student. Trust is built through listening to the student's needs, understanding the root cause of their struggles and strengths, and then identifying small, immediate next steps to make progress.
I have worked with every type of student. As a teacher, then as a principal, I have had an opportunity to work with so many unique individuals that I was able to learn what routines work for everyone and what unique strategies I may need to use to meet the needs of equally unique students.
Find a teacher that has the same goals you have, takes a geniuine interest in your well-being, and is trustworthy and reliable.
I run with my running team most mornings through Central Park, and seeing the sun come up over the east side of Manhattan is an event I will always be fond of.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is the root cause of your struggle? In other words, if you keep asking yourself "why" you are struggling, you will likely identify the problem to focus your attention on, rather than becoming frustrated because you may think you solved the problem only to have it resurface again in the future.
