About Aurora
Since tutoring my first student in Spanish class in high school, I knew I wanted to tutor later on in life. When I attended the Culinary Institute of America, I had the opportunity to tutor my peers in the courses I excelled in, including English. Continuing my education at The University of Missouri, I led creative writing workshops for my peers as an extra-curricular activity. I also created a creative writing curriculum in a graduate-level course called Teaching Creative Writing.
I love working with students one on one and addressing specific goals and outcomes established during sessions. Seeing the growth and the a-ha moments unravel during a tutoring session is exceptionally rewarding for me. I celebrate the uniqueness of each student and their ability to succeed. I also cater to different learning styles and understand that one size does not fit all when it comes to teaching. As a tutor, I am flexible, but hold students accountable for meeting their goals.
I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's in English and a certificate in Creative Writing. I also hold a certificate in Professional Writing. My poetry has been published Litmag 2021 and I have an upcoming prose poem to be published in the Arkansas Review. I am qualified to tutor because I have shown command of the English language and have 16 months of tutoring experience in various subjects, including English, at The Culinary Institute of America.
I started tutoring in high school. I was doing well in Spanish V and my teacher asked me to tutor a Spanish 3 student. I got the opportunity to tutor in college and create a creative writing curriculum.
I have a BA in English, a certificate in Creative Writing, and a certificate in Professional Writing from the University of Missouri. I have experience creating a creative writing curriculum. I also received on-the-job tutor training at the Culinary Institute of America to tutor my peers one on one and in workshop settings where I tutored for 16 months. I led my own creative writing workshop at the University of Missouri as an extra-curricular activity through the campus writer's group.

The first session is devoted to me, the tutor, getting acquainted with the student. Goals are discussed. Reviewing the student's brief academic history and learning style helps establish a grounding place to start from. After getting a clear picture of the student's needs, we review any timelines or time constraints. If there is time left in the session, we can get to work right away.
I have worked with a diverse range of students from all over the world, including Scotland, Turks & Caicos, India, China, and Ecuador. My experience is mainly with adolescents and young adults. I have also worked with students who have been diagnosed with ADHD. También, yo hablo español para ayudar los estudiantes.
I would encourage students to let down their guard and be honest with themselves about what how they are doing and what they would like to change. The hardest part is asking for help and doing the work to gain clarity about their situation. After grounding themselves, they are able to set goals and be held accountable by a tutor who gives them tools for success.
Recently, I was able to hike over 800 miles of the Appalachian Trail after graduation and I learned so much about myself, about the mountains, and about the people around me. It was a truly enriching experience that I cherish forever in my heart.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think through the following questions before talking to teachers about their needs:
1. In what area would I like to improve? (ie. essay writing, reading comprehension, creative writing, etc)
2. How many sessions do I see myself needing? Am I willing to negotiate that depending on my teacher's assessment of me?
3. Can I commit to an hour long session time-wise?
4. What things works for me when it comes to learning a new concept?
5. What things don't work for me when it comes to learning a new concept?
6. What is my academic history and am I willing to be honest about it?
7. Do I have any mental or physical challenges I should disclose to my teacher?
