About Nina

Hi! My name is Nina Schiller, I'm an upcoming sophomore studying English Education at Penn State University. I am home in Bucks County now due to the pandemic, and am looking to spend my free time working with kids on English. I know this pandemic may leave a lot of kids struggling, and I miss my interaction with kids I had before this quarantine so I am looking to help! I have 2 years of volunteering as a teacher's assistant at my local elementary schools, as well as high grades in English. I love writing and reading, it has always been my passion and best subject! I also have experiencing at paid work with kids, as I worked full-time at my local summer camp this past year, where I will be working (hopefully if we are out of quarantine) again this summer. I'd love to help you or your child with any of your English, and am willing to help with a range of things from editting essays, helping creative writing, and any other suggestions are welcomed. I am very flexible and up for suggestions as I am trying to broaden my experience and creativity.

Teachers have always been the biggest influencers in my life, even beyond my own parents sometimes. When I was in second grade, my mother passed away from ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. My whole community stepped up to show their support for me and my two brothers. My teachers have been extremely supportive and caring ever since, showing me the light in the darkest times of my life. My English teachers have always been so influential with my poetry and writing passions, as well as encouraging my love for reading. After my Dad became an addict in highschool, I leaned heavily on school and my extracirrcular activities as positive outlets, and my teachers for support. So I am dedicated to spreading light and love to kids who need it, just like I did. I wish that every child loves school and learning, as it helped me excell as a human and in life; I don't know where I'd be without my education.

About the lesson

Get to know the student and if necessary their parents. Get to know their needs so that way I can assess what I need to do, let them or their parent know the plans, and go from there! It is always about the student.

I have worked with 1st-3rd graders hands on through volunteerism, but I have also helped my peers throughout high school with all of our English projects and essays!
