About Nelson
I am a University Student studying English and History at Royal Holloway University of London with a grade roughly equal to a 3.5 GPA. Prior to living in England, I was taught in New York City and so have had experience with two distinct teaching/learning styles. I love to edit essays (my own and others) and gain great pleasure from seeing an essay go from what would be a mediocre grade to a high grade after editing. I have not tutored professionally before, but have worked with friends and other students on making their essays better and assisted them with grasping an understanding of course material.
I received an International Baccalaureate Diploma after finishing High School at the United Nations International School in New York City. I also received a scholarship from Royal Holloway University of London, which I currently attend and am predicted an upper Second-Class degree with Honours going into my final year.

If the student has difficulty with an understanding of coursework, I would ask the student to recap everything they know about what they are having difficult with until they get to the point they are struggling with. At that point I would offer different suggestions as to how to view the problem, such as comparing it with real-life situations. If this fails, I would go through the material as simply as I can and ask follow up questions afterwards to make sure they understand the material.
If the student has an issue with essay writing or editing, I would take them through the same process I go through at university. For the former, I would begin with asking them to write an overall idea for the essay. Once that is done, I ask them to think of specific points that back the idea up (Point 1, Point 2, etc.) and then treat each of them separately so as to avoid feeling overwhelmed. For editing, I would read the essay, mark where I think the edits should be (grammar/syntax, general advice, and how the essay could be brought to the next level), and then ask the student where they think the essay should be edited.
Generally, I would make sure the student feels like they are the ones finding and making improvements on their learning and I am simply a guide
