About Alli

Hello!

I’m Alli. I am an English and writing tutor for all ages. I take an individualized approach to tutoring and teaching. I understand that everyone has unique goals and learns differently, so I like to tailor the experience to each student. While my methods for tutoring may vary from student to student, and the content may change, my initial approach is more-or-less the same.

Firstly, I need to know what your goals are and what challenges you are facing. Are you struggling to understand a specific subject or topic? Are you looking for help writing a well-structured, persuasive, or thoroughly-researched essay? Are you looking for help with English comprehension, vocabulary, or sentence structure? Do you need assistance with essay review or test prep? Are you looking to improve your writing skills to help you advance or evolve in your professional career?

Whatever your goals are, I want to help you! I like to collaborate with my students to help them achieve their goals and I find that every student needs something different. Some common things I see student’s struggle with are organization and studying practices, essay structure, formatting and transitions, idea generation, research, and citations.

In our first session, we will outline your goals, what your expectations are, how you measure success, and how much time you're looking to dedicate to tutoring. It will also give us a chance to see if we are a good fit, and if we both feel comfortable moving forward in the process. While the duration, frequency and length of sessions will vary depending on each individual’s needs, tutoring sessions will generally last 60-90 minutes.

I really enjoy empowering students to achieve their goals. I understand that learning can be challenging, which can cause frustration, a lack of motivation and self-doubt. My goal in tutoring is not only to help students achieve success, but to also help shift their mindset so they believe they can rise to the challenge and put in the work to achieve their goals. Mindset and perspective are incredibly important, and I enjoy the mentoring aspects of tutoring and teaching just as much as I enjoy helping students improve their technical skills. I want to help my students create long-lasting change and give them the tools and encouragement they need to tackle challenges long after we finish our time together.

About the lesson

It's okay to "shop around." If you don't feel a tutor is the right fit for you, it's okay to try out a session with someone new. I think it's really important that you are not only confident and assured your tutor can help you achieve your goals, but to also feel personally comfortable with that person. After all, tutoring is one-on-one and it shouldn't be a dreaded meeting or make you feel uncomfortable emotionally.

I was recently a substitute teacher for Kindergarten and was given drawings of rainbows and houses, was told "I love you" several times, and received an abundance of hugs.
