About Gayle

I have been a private flute instructor for over 4 decades with students going on the pursue music degrees at Temple University, Butler Unversity, University of West Virginia, Baldwin-Wallace University and Miami University, among others. I studied with Alexander Murray of the London Symphony and William Hebert, Piccolo player of The Cleveland Orchestra. My students have been principal flute in The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony and Contemporary Youth Orchestra. But - I am also very interested and encourage beginners and adults! I happily cover all aspects of flute playing.

I truly love to see the progress in my students at the various levels. It's not about the end game; for me it is about learning and spending quality time developing a passion for music.

From the moment I started to "toot" when I was ten, the flute has been a major part of my life. I studied for 8 years with William Hebert, piccolo player of The Cleveland Orchestra, and specialized in piccolo during my college years. In graduate school, I sutdied with Alexander Murray who had been Principal Flute of the London Philharmonic. So I can teach beginning flute through advanced solos/orchestral exceprts. My students have been in the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Contemporary Youth Orchestra and Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony for many years. Each year one or more of my studnets pursue music degrees and almost always getting into the college of their choice. I also perform a couple times each week so I am still very much an active musician.

About the lesson

It usually takes a couple lessons for us to get to know each other and for me to assess the potential of the student. Once we are comfortable, I tend to accept their limits but push them to new areas of improvement. It is a journey together while exploring music and art.
