About Aleksandra

With over a decade of performing and teaching experience, there is nothing I love more than to share my passion for the flute! It is my mission to provide a solid foundation for good technique, introduce students to various repertoire, and customize lessons to each students' needs in order to maximize their progress - all while making the experience lighthearted and fun.

I am a Connecticut native that had the opportunity to study abroad in Poland. I hold a Master of Music in Flute Performance and Pedagogy from the G. and K. Bacewicz Academy of Music in Lodz, Poland.

Thanks to my travels, I have had the opportunity to perform in Poland, Turkey, Germany, Croatia, and (of course) the United States. Currently, I am a member of the Connecticut Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Connecticut Flute Orchestra, and Concert Timbre - a performance collaborative in New York City. Other ensembles I have performed in are the Wallingford Sympony Orchestra, Farmington Symphony Orchestra, and Manchester Symphony Orchestra.

I hold a Master of Music in Flute Performance and Pedagogy from the G. and K. Bacewicz Academy of Music in Lodz, Poland.

About the lesson

My goal is to make you excited about playing the flute. I aim to create a judgement-free space where students are free to explore their capabilities. I help students overcome obstacles, teach them how to practice in the more effective way for the best results, and make lessons fun!

No matter what level a student is at, the first thing we do is make a preliminary list of goals. It helps me to understand what your expectations for lessons are. It will help me to customize the speed and intensity of lessons to suit your needs. Are you playing occasionally for fun and want relaxed lessons, do you require intense training in order to win a competition, or something in between?

If the student is a complete beginner, I want to make sure they receive a good foundation right from the start. We begin with the basics:

- how to maintain the instrument

- proper posture

- headjoint work

- first notes and building fast fingers

- fundamentals for good tone

For students who have prior experience with playing the flute, we will begin by assessing where their current level of playing is and what kind of experience they have. It is helpful for the student to play two excerpts with varying styles if possible. From there, we will work together to improve their technique, sound, musicality, and musical knowledge.

I have taught students ranging from 8 years old to retirees, and I welcome learners of all ages. My experience includes working with complete beginners who have never held a flute before, as well as more advanced students preparing for auditions, competitions, and higher-level academic study. Whether you’re just starting your musical journey or looking to refine your skills, I tailor lessons to each student’s goals and experience level.

I strongly advise to look for someone who has specifically studied the art of playing the flute. There are many teachers who give lessons in multiple instruments. Schools often provide lessons, but these are usually short group lessons which cannot offer the same service as one-on-one instruction from a teacher who is an expert in that specific instrument.

Because the flute itself requires very specific embouchure technique and posture, if someone is not predominantly a flutist and teaches the flute, they may be unable to teach the subtleties of correct playing. I have seen many flute students who have been previously taught by non-flutists, and we would spend a great deal of time unlearning bad habits. Having a good teacher from the start gives students a huge advantage. However, don't despair if you have studied from a non-flutist in the past. A flute teacher with the right expertise can help you move in the right direction and improve your playing more quickly than you had ever expected.
