About Diana

Welcome potential students. Whether you have danced Mexican Folklorico in the past or not, all are welcome to learn from me. This artform is for everybody, beginners or experienced dancers, all ethnic backgrounds, 5 yrs. old and up.

A little bit about myself. I have been dancing for 24 yrs and teaching for 20 years in the San Fernando Valley, CA. I teach Mexican Folklorico at California State University, Northridge to the only folklorico group on campus, Ballet Folklorico Aztlan de CSUN. For the last two years I have also been teaching my own community group, Grupo Folklorico Huitzillin. Over the years of teaching I have presented many folklorico workshops at elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. I am very passionate about Mexican Folklorico and that passion grows more every year.

If you are new to Mexican Folklorico, my mission is to help you reach your goal of learning Mexican folklorico well enough so that you can perform it on stage or at events and the way I will do that is to teach you dance techniques and footwork that is appropriate for someone that is new to this dance form. For experienced dancers, there is always room for improvement and so I will provide classes to you that are intended to get you to the next level. I am willing to put in extra time with my students if they are willing to put in extra time too.

There is so much beauty in this art form and it makes me very happy to teach it to children, teens, young and older adults, especially when they are new to folklorico. It's the best thing seeing a dancer at the beginner level perform for the first time and seeing the smiles on their faces or on the faces of all dancers that I teach.

About the lesson

My typical process is to first ask a new student whether they have danced Mexican Folklorico before and if they have, I next ask how many years they danced and if they have been practicing the artform recently or if they are returning to it after a few months or years.

It is important to know whether they have experience dancing Mexican Folklorico or not so that I can determine at what speed and level I will teach them.
