About Matt

When working with students I really enjoy seeing the "light" come on when they start to understand the concepts of the golf swing and are able to repeat them. I get excited when my students come back and tell me how much their game has improved and how many strokes that they have taken off of their rounds!

In the past 15 years, I have worked with all ages and genders of players from beginners to more experienced players. I specialize in the fundamentals of the golf swing and can work on the range, chipping and putting and on the course depending on the needs and wants of my students.

From 2010 to 2015 i worked with the First Tee of America which works with underpriviledged children from all walks of life. I helped introduce hundreds of kids to the game of golf by giving them lessons through the First Tee of America. From 2015 to the current time I have worked as an assistant golf coach with one of our local high schools where I had the opportunity to work with both male and female high school athletes to help them compete with other schools in their district.

I enjoy being outside in the warm sun helping my students get better at the game of golf. I believe that learning how to "swing" the club is a better way to play than "hitting" at the ball. I am very patient and understand that not all people learn the same way, so I employee various techniques until one of them "click" for the student. My goal when giving someone a lesson is to teach them how to diagnose their own swing so that they do not have to keep coming back for lessons and can get out on the course and enjoy the game! I teach awareness of what the body has to do to generate a great golf swing.

US Kids Golf certified instructor. Positive Coaching Alliannce certified. Certified golf instructor for the First Tee of America since 2010. Employeed at Peculiar Golf and Leaning Center. 2004 Golfsmith Master Club Builder.

About the lesson

The typical process for working with a new student is:

- Meet and greet (5 minutes)

- Questions about experience, physical conditions, student expectations, instructor expectations (5 minutes)

- Getting started with the basics: grip, posture, ball position, alignment, making a swing (15-20 minutes)

- Small one-handed swings with each hand to help understand clubface control and putting the clubface on the back of the ball. (20 minutes)

- Wrap up and review (5 - 10 miutes)

- Homework (Will send a text with reminders of what was done in the lesson along with any videos that are relevant to the work being done.)
