About Julia
Carnegie Mellon University BFA Dramaturgy 2023, minor in Literature & Culture.
Expansive education analyzing theatre and literature, experience tutoring students in improving the grammar, structure, and creativity of college essays. Specialty in play analysis and theatre studies.
As a lifelong lover of storytelling, I am passionate about consuming and analyzing stories that speak to me, as well as writing the stories I wish I can see more of. We all have books and movies that affect the way we see the world, and I love finding new ways to affect people's perspectives. I am a big believer that how you tell a story or write an essay is far more important than the information itself, and the difference between a good story and a great story is simply framing (a big part of how I teach).
Have been a college essay tutor for two years after receiving training from college admissions experts and getting personal praise from colleges on my own essay. Have published short stories in 3 literary magazines. Currently enrolled in one of the top dramaturgy programs (drama analysis) in the world, and have taken classes on literary analysis and fiction writing.

I always start with learning about the student's personal interests, since writing is typically far easier when the student has prior knowledge or general interest in the topic. I will then work with them to help create a good writer's voice by editing grammar, helping with sentence flow, and discussing the best descriptive support for the student's points. With collaboration and discussion being a big part of my career, the goal is not to give the student information to regurgitate, but to help them develop lifelong skills using their own worldly perspective.

Details
$30 for a one-time session, $18 per session for repeated sessions. Prices can be negotiated, but extra is always welcome (please help a college student out!)
