About Jeffery

Prior to studying to be a School Psychologist, I was more focused on classes around business and engineering. I first gained interest in psychology after taking a learning and memory course in college. After learning about how we learn and how memory works and being able to apply some of the topics covered ... I was able to see an increase in my grades and a decrease in effort. I wish I learned some of these strategies and how our brains work earlier in life.

I didn't always get the best grades in High School. I moved around a lot and was usually able to skate by, on raw talent and didnt really study. This eventually caught up to me.

During my first interview for graduate school, my interviewer told me that my test scores were really high. How did this guy who didn't get the best grades in high school beat out 60-80% of others attempting to get into graduate school (taking the GRE)? My scores met or exceeded the minimum scores for most PhD programs. At one point in life I never thought that would have been possible.

I still think back to that course and how impactful learning about learning was.

I work in the schools at all age levels as a School Psychologist. Outside of the school setting, I can help with things like study skills and have some curriculum that teach self regulation etc. I am NOT able to do any therapy or counseling as a tutor.

I enjoy when I am able to work with a student and see real results they are able to generalize into other settings/tasks.

School Psychology degree obtained in NY. I have practiced in the field for approximately 15 years,

I also worked for a few years as a behavior specialist and traveled to multiple school districts. Often my behavior consultation looked at how the students learn and adjustments to instruction and materials not just focusing on behaviors.

About the lesson

Depending on the age of the child,I like to start off with interviews and observe the child work on the areas of concern. Then call me up with a plan.
