About Lyal

I believe going beyond the technical challenges of learning to play guitar, and melding 'the why' into lessons. That can range from music theory which translates across instruments and helps musicians communicate, to diving into why a student may be drawn to a particular genre or style.

My goal is to teach students how to learn to play guitar. I don't want my students to only know how to play a handful of songs, but rather feel empowered to learn any song they desire using the skills they mastered through lessons.

I enjoy seeing the spark of music in students. The moment when something that was impossible the week before suddenly falls into place. I believe music can be a wonderful coping mechanism and healthy outlet for emotions. I enjoy helping others find that through guitar.

About the lesson

I start with an evaluation of where they are, what skills they may or may not have, any bad habits they may have picked up, what their goals are, etc. We then go systematically through skills I consider to be essential to becoming a fluent musician. I try to make it to where a new student is playing something they can be proud of fairly quickly. It's all about how much you enjoy it in the end.
