About Amber

I know that for me, I enjoy getting to put the spotlight on my students. I also like haveing concerts for my students to be able to demonstrate their skills for their friends and family. I also can work with students of any age, starting at about age 5 through age 100+. My experiences with teaching children gives me the ability to teach even very young students.

I enjoy getting to share my love of music with others. I also enjoy seeing the development of skills in my students and demonstrating to them how the skills directly correlate to other aspects of their lives and studies. To me, music is never learned in a vacuum and there is such an amazing opportunity to explore the world through music! I also love getting to see my students on stage and watch their family and friends be able to enjoy that experience with them.

I began teaching when I was in the military. I taught lessons on different instruments when I was overseas. I also fell in love with large group teaching. When I came home from overseas, I began work on two master's degree to help give me the education I needed. I have now been an elementary school music teacher in Dallas ISD for the last two years. I also continue to teach music in my church as well.

I majored in music for my bachelors. I also have a masters degree from Dallas Baptist University in worship leadership which gave me advanced training in both teaching individual lessons. I also had additional advanced training ini both music technology as well as composition and song writing.

About the lesson

Before teaching any student, I want to assess what prior knowledge that my students have so that I can appropriately tailor my lessons to meet their current needs. I also aim to discuss short and long term goals with the students.

I have worked extensively with elementary aged students but I also have taught many adult students as well. I would also love to work with middle or high schoolers. I am comfortable working with students who have limited english proficiency as the school I teach at has students that do not have english as their first language.

I think that talking to the teacher ahead of time and taking the time to get to know the teacher is one of the most important parts to hiring a teacher. I also think that the connection between student and teacher is a big part to a successful learning environment.

I love the large programs that I have put on at my school. One of my fondest events is of a large performance where my students looked like they had so much fun. I even had some of the Pre-K students doing a hula dance. I love getting to highlight the skills of my students where I can put the spotlight on them!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think that the willingness to practice outside of the lesson is one of the most important aspects of taking a private lesson. Skill development comes from practice and not just the time during the lesson. This availability for time to practice the skills is a large part of deciding on lessons. This also helps for the teacher and the student to develop goals together.

Details

I generally teach only private 1/2 hour lessons at a rate of $25 per lesson. I do offer discounts for multiple members of a familiy such as several children doing consecutive lessons. I also offer discounts to students directly related to military personnel. I also will accept cash, check, and credit card.
