About Lawrence

Teaching has always excited me and watching/hearing my students progress thru the different levels of performing music they enjoy brings me great joy. I also enjoy the student's love of music as they work through my custom tailored program I make especially for each and every one of my students.

I've had many kinds of students over my many joyful years of teaching. When a student starts out from the very beginning and work up their skills as I take them through my customized individual course it is s much fun to see their confidence grow as they become wonderful musicians along the way.

I started teaching in Philadelphia by request of music store owners there and continued at a large music school in Arcadia, CA once I moved here in 1983. Now I teach by referral.

I have years of teaching beginners to advanced students. I also teach professional advanced musical composition and improvisational skills.

I went to Temple University and have a BA degree (Philadelphia). I studied at The Philadelphia Music Academy after Temple for additional courses in musicianship, and performance in a big band. I've had numerous improvisation teachers over gtr years. In California, since 1983, I've studied with several teachers both at PCC and privately in performance and music theory, composition and music calligraphy.

I've also studied music for film and attended the ASCAP (American Society of Composers and Publishers) and a long time member as well as ASMAC (American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (10 year Board member) and SCL (Society of Composers and Lyricists) member as well.

About the lesson

With new student I evaluate their natural abilities and physical strength to play their chosen instrument in the most fundamental ways. Can they hold the note down, in single or multiple ways. Is their instrument in good working order. Can the play a few notes in a row. Can they "hear" the pitches and maybe sing them back once they hear them.

Details

My average price per lesson is $65 for student that come to my place for lessons or do lessons by internet. I charge more to compensate for travel time and travel expenses (including current fuel costs).
