One of the things that makes Dave an exceptional teacher, I think, is that he has a wide breadth of musical knowledge and experience. While he is Classical Guitar expert, he understands and is well versed in Jazz, Rock, Folk and Flamenco. This is particularly helpful for me and my studies, as the music I’m playing walks into the Jazz, Classical, and Spanish worlds simultaneously. I would not be able to play as well as I am at the moment if it weren’t for his ability to be fluid with those particular musical styles, his ability to read and clearly communicate the music that is on the page, and his patient and disciplined approach to technique.

It's been 3+ years I'm taking classes with David for Classical & Flamenco guitar. I would definitely recommend him, as he is very patienceful and encouraging all the time. His way of teaching is very systematized (practice the scale, to open up fingers, learning basic techniques, learn full pieces, learn multiple pieces, learn advance techniques, learn pieces combining multiple advance techniques, ear training, etc). Practicing and proofing basics to advance stuff, and different kind of techniques. He is very through in explaining music in different ways, never rushes you, and try to correct you, but not disturb you (Thumb behind the neck Manu). Mastering guitar is not easy, but its fairly easy & fun if you have an instructor like David, who encourage you to do what you want to do while giving you the right direction. My previous experience with a guitar was playing folk songs using simple chords. Mr. Malmberg introduced me to classical guitar music and I have enjoyed learning many classical pieces under his instruction. He is firm about me practicing. He explains the pieces in great detail. He corrects my finger placement on the strings before I practice incorrectly. Mr. Malmberg finds classical pieces I might enjoy and is spot in with those choices. Any student, young or old, would enjoy learning any type of guitar music under Mr. Malmberg's tutelage.
