About Michael

I have been playing diligently guitar for over four years and have learned from the best around. I have taken several college level courses on music theory, as well as other music related courses. I love sharing my experience with others and would be happy to share my knowledge with you! Each student has different goals, so lessons will be tailored towards those goals. Each lesson will be 30 minutes, once a week. We will cover new material in some lessons and review old material to ensure that you reach your full musical potential. Learning the guitar will open up a world of enjoyment, so have fun with it!

I started teaching a couple friends and decided that I wanted to continue teaching other people.

I am primarily a self taught guitarist, but I have taken lessons for a couple years from two very talented guitarists. I have also taken several college level courses on music theory, as well as other music related courses.

About the lesson

The first lesson will usually be to get a feel for the students playing level and abilities. We will also discuss the different goals and develop a path that will allow us to surpass the students goals.

I have work with total beginners to people that have sang in bands and wanted to better develop their guitar abilities.

Find a teacher. Yes, you can teach yourself, but from personal experience, a teacher will help you improve ten times faster.

Each Wednesday I always attend a local Jam session with other talented guitarists that have been playing for decades. I also attend an open Mic night on Fridays at the same location with the same people. Finding people that are at a higher skilled level than you are can really help to build your playing ability and confidence.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Figure out what style of guitar you'd like to learn. Some teachers teach rock, others teach jazz, and some teach classical. Come up with a list of song that you'd like to learn. I suggest a minimum of 5 songs. This will help instructors have a sense of what kind of goals you have. Also, have realistic expectations of how fast you will progress. You won't be able to play like Stevie Ray Vaughan or Brad Paisley in one year. You might be able to play one song by them, but learning takes time and a lot of practice.

Details

Lessons will be 30 minutes, once per week. The cost for lessons is $10 each. I prefer to charge by month, so that's $40 per month.
