About Jack

I understand that a lot of people are frustrated with not being able to figure out stuff they would like to play on their instrument at a faster rate. I want to be here to help each student that I have the honor of working with to create a fun, mentally healthy, and comfortably paced environment to where they are having joy while learning their instrument.

I enjoy the idea that working seems effortless when I get to see the joy of a student grow and grow within their capabilities and story unfolding as they are developing a love for learning music!

I started teaching with friends and family on guitar and piano. I then worked toward teaching neighbors and others in the community as a paid job.

I am a music education major at Belmont University in Nashville, TN.

I have taken classes called "Educational Psychology, School methods" and various type of instrumental music classes.

About the lesson

I start out with a fun discussion of introduction, questions, talks about favorite bands and songs. Then, I explain about the instrument and best ways to go about holding, sitting, playing. Next, I tell we can share funny stories, being free to share whatever and to ease into a good learning mental space to grow and have fun with whichever instrument!

Mostly younger students, elementary, middle, and high school level students.

I would advise the student about the potential struggles that come with learning and that there is no need to fret over any attitude issue or level of expectation and that it is okay to take everything at the comfortable pace of the student without issue. Also, it is important to reassure the student that although there are struggles, they can be overcome by keeping the motivation fun, lively, and worry free!

I was teaching a kid about tone and I taught him the difference between E minor and E major. We played E minor together and I asked him, "now what does this chord make you think of?" And he responded, "like the old west? like a saloon or something." I thought that was hilarious and then I taught him E major which he said sounded brighter and happier and that's when you are at the beach!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should think through, how comfortable am I talking to my teacher? If I am comfortable, what is it about my teacher that makes me not want to approach him or her? It is important for the teacher to first and foremost lay a foundation of an accepting and welcoming nature.
