About Mark
I've been playing guitar all my life and have decades of experience as a performing and recording musician and teacher.
I've developed a unique method for learning the note positions on the guitar fretboard called "Fretography" some of which can be found at my blog fretography.blogspot.com. I've also written several guitar books based on my method.
I love music and love helping others fulfill their musical aspirations.
I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and working with them to discover and bring out their musical talents.
I began teaching over 2O years ago partly as a way of supplementing my income and sharing my love of music. I now teach full time. I've had many great teachers in my life and have always believed that teaching is one of the most honorable professions.
I've been playing guitar since the age of 9. My formal music training began in grade school where I was in the school orchestra playing viola. I attended UCLA as a music student, studying theory.
My career began in the mid 1970s in New York's Greenwich Village where I played guitar and sang in clubs and coffee houses. Since then I've played at dozens of venues as a solo artist and with various bands, live and in the recording studio.

I like to learn what a new studgent's interests are. What style of music do they want to play, do they have any prior musical knowledge or experience? Then I'll tailor the lesson plans to their individual strengths and weaknesses so the can make steady progress.
I work with students at all levels, from total beginners to experienced players who need coaching to help them refine their technique or fill in gaps in their knowledge — and from ages 8 to 80.

Details
My rates are:
$50 for a single 1hr lesson.
$270 for a series of six 1hr lessons ($45 per lesson paid ahead). The series also includes my 168 page guitar method book, Fretography.
$400 for a ten lesson series ($40 per lesson) including my book, Fretography.
