About Barry

I'm a fulltime working singing acoustic guitarist and electric bassist with forty-plus years experience on large and small stages on two continents and in the studio. I also write and self-produce my own songs.

As such, I offer contemporary style "feel" based private instuction and songwriting coaching for anyone from beginners to up-and-runnings who'd like to add more colors to their musical palettes. I can help with your lyrics too if you'e a songwiter.

The feeling of accomplishment I get when I have clearly "gotten through" to either a student or an audience in a positive, meaningful way.

I stated taking on students in 2015 when I decided to supplement my musician's income to include spreading my accumulated stage and studio-learned knowledge around in a way that might be beneficial to others.

I have worked as an acoustic guitarist and electric bassist on large and small stages on two continents for forty years.

I started off in a local Long Island cover and original band called Mazarin who became highly successful.

In 2007 I became bassist, rhythm guitarist and background vocalist for Blackmore's Night, current band of Deep Purple's "founding father" Ritchie Blackmore.

I presently play bass for Happy Together, a six-act 1960s pop oldies tour which features original members of the Turtles, Three Dog Night, Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Association and others.

About the lesson

The first thing I do is ask the new student what he/she wishes to accomplish. I ask for examples of songs or genres whose styles they hope to master. In the case of songwriters, I ask to hear songs, or song ideas, they wish to develop further. Then I ask the student to demonstrate some of what they've accomplished so far. I can always tell from this demo how to tailor the lessons to that student's unique set of needs and potential skills.

Ages 11 to adult.

To follow his/her instincts, and to not be too concened with the opinions and musical prejudices of others.

And also to make a point of playing / singing / writing at least a little EVERY DAY.
