About Kieran

I have been playing guitar for over 16 years. I started out learning from a private instructor for 2 and a half years. Then I studied at New York School of Music in Walden, NY for 3 years. After that, I focused on songwriting and became self-taught. From 2013-2014, I studied classical guitar with Greg Dinger. I have won awards, such as 2nd place in a local contest and winning the jazz soloist award on the band trip in my senior year of high school. When I was Music Major at Ulster Community College, I was the only guitarist to make the Honors Recital both semesters in my freshmen year. I have been passionate about playing guitar and music in general since I was 6 years old. This, along with my due diligence in honing my skills, has allowed me to become the accomplished musician I am today. I take teaching guitar and music very seriously, and my experience and accomplishments is reflected through my teaching.

In 2011, after a couple of years of playing guitar I decided it would be a good idea to start teaching people so I could get the experience early.

I have over 16 years of experience playing guitar. I have been teaching guitar since 2011, when I was 15. In addition to that, I have won local contests or placed 2nd (never lower), won awards such as the Jazz Soloist Award on the band trip in high school, and was the only guitarist chosen for the Honors Recital in college both semesters.

About the lesson

First, I want to see what level the student is at. By that, I mean I like to see how much experience they have before deciding what the first lesson will consist of. If they have little to none, I start off by introducing the fundamentals of guitar playing and then go from there. If they have at least a year or two of experience, I ask what they are working on at the moment and/or see what aspects of their playing could use improvement. Before any first lesson with a new student, I like to get as much information as possible so I can determine what kind of lesson is best suited for that student.

The skill levels of the students I've worked with vary, ranging from no playing at all to having at least 3 years of experience.
