About Allison
I come at my teaching style with a classical background but a modern sensibility. With 15+ years of classical piano and vocal training and 10+ years of modern guitar, I can help you either refine your technique, or help you learn to let go a little! The rules are there for us to bend them - so let's bend them a little!

I began coaching friends and acquaintances in musical theatre and choir performance when I was about 16 years old. I have since worked at a number of music camps, where I have taught children between the ages of 9 and 16 how to sing solo, sing in small groups, and play piano and ukulele. More recently I have been coaching piano, voice, guitar, and ukulele through the Bach 2 Rock Music School.
I have 15+ years of classical piano and voice training, 10+ years of choir experience (4 of which was professional), collegiate studies in Music Performance (with a focus on voice and composition), and 10+ years of self-taught guitar experience. I also have a knowledge of band instrumentation and orchestration, specifically in woodwinds, and I have digital music production experience with GarageBand and Logic Pro X.

We'll start with a preliminary lesson to discuss goals, past experience, and potential projects. I provide the students with a variety of exercises that are customized to their performance level and a set practice schedule. Everything is spaced out based on a combination of student wants and needs.
I have worked mostly with children and teens, but I have had some adult and young adult students.
Look for a teacher that wants to LISTEN to you! Naturally a teacher will need to put a curriculum in place to get you to be your best self, but if you feel that YOUR goals are not being understood, then it may not be the best match. At the end of the day, trust your gut!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What kind of vocal/playing style do I want? What kind of experience am I looking for? How much practice time can I commit to? Am I picking this piece/genre because it's the popular thing to do, or because I get value out of it?
