About Ryan

My fundamental goal is to get students to not merely trudge through a particular assignment or a course, but to get them to succeed by getting excited about the process of learning new materials. Not all subjects are mind blowing. However, when a student understands that learning a subject leads to better 21st century life skills (reading, writing, editing, oral presentation) they can better understand and analyze the materials assigned to them and as a result get a better grade.

I hold a Ph.D. in history. I also hold an M.A. and B.A. in history and an M.A. in public administration. I have served as a college professor (7 years), a graduate assistant (6.5 years) in history. I have also taught 6-12 grade social studies classes including AP World History, AP US history, government, economics, and general social studies classes. I have served as a table leader and reader for the AP U.S. History (APUSH) exam for nine years. This included some courses with Special Education students. I have published extensively in the field of history.

I can help with reading, writing, editing, and presentations in any of the above mentioned subjects. I am an expert in American History.

I am based near The University of New Mexico.

I love teaching. I have been doing it for more than 15 years. I love to see how students evolve through the process of learning in the subject that we work on together and how that leads to both professional and personal growth. I learn to evolve as a teacher and mentor alongside the student's intellectual growth.

About the lesson

While I will facilitate tutoring sessions, the student and I work together until they walk away satisfied that they:

A. Have completed the assignment.

B. Understand the purpose of the assignment in furthering their knowledge and skill set.

C. Can recount what skills were learned in the process of completing the assignment and how those will be useful in the future.

I ask that students began by interpreting the basic goals of the assignment or course they need help with. What is the teacher requesting that you do? What are the several steps involved in completing the assignment? In many cases, this is the first step in succeeding. Many students make the error of glossing over the instructions, which puts them at a disadvantage.

I am here to help with the same urgency that students have for completing with satisfaction any particular assignment or course.
