About Steve
I love to help people learn. As a tutor and substitute teacher, I have taught students on every level from pre-school to college, including a short stint teaching inmates at the state prison. I ran an alternative school program on Maui for kids who had been kicked out of the regular school system.
Most of my career as a business coach and mentor has been about taking things apart and rearranging them in a way that helps students understand and really learn. I struggled with Math in the classroom but found that a self-paced home-study course in college helped me to finally understand algebra. I have used those learning tools to teach high-school students how to overcome their blocks to learning Math as well.
I have a passion for history and political science. I played trumpet and french horn in the orchestra and jazz band in high school and college, which earned me a music scholarship. I was fascinated by chemistry and science classes. And I competed in debate, Model United Nations, and legislative forum.
I have a Psychology/Anthropology degree from the University of Hawaii - West Oahu, and three years of graduate work in Organizational Psychology at Texas A&M University.
I have a degree in Psychology from the Unversity of Hawaii-West Oahu, and three years of graduate work at Texas A&M University. I have tutored students in math, music, social studies, science, and history. I have been a substitute teacher for every level from preschool to college. I also ran an alternative school in Hawaii for students who could no longer participate in public school.

First I spend time establishing rapport with my students. This includes finding out what their concerns are, what they do well, what they have trouble with, what they hope tutoring will do for them. Next, I work with them on specific assignments, which helps me assess where they are and how I can best help them get where they want to go.
