About JENNIFER
We make handmade jewelry from recycled metals and ethically sourced gems. We also make seasonal crafts from recycled materials that are suitable for children and adults to make, depending on skill level.
I love being able to make things with my hands that brings joy to others. And I love teaching others how to make their own.
I have a skill that people want to learn. I aquired it through personal desire and the good will of my teachers. I enjoy passing on the knowledge that they so freely gave to me. After obtaining a Master's Degree and deciding I did not want to work in the service industry anymore, teaching became a natural avenue to pursue.
I have an MFA in Jewelry and Metals from SUNY New Paltz, one of the top rated programs in the country for my field. My BFA, in the same field is from Millersville University in PA.
I have led workshops and taught classes for all ages, including Cheltenham Center for the Arts, Peter's Valley Craft Education Center and most recently at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio. I have also done private lessons from my home studio, occasionally.

First we do introductions, tell a little bit about ourselves. Then we'll talk about the scope of the lesson or class, discuss any prerequisites I have for the class or limitations you may have. Then we discuss safety and cleanliness and organization before getting into the real topics of the lesson.
The key to making jewelry is a clean workspace, lol. ;)
All ages, children to older adults, Those in low socio- economic standing, to those in better circumstances. The desire to learn and curiosity of how things are put together is the same throughout social classes, ages, and backrounds.
Understand that a teacher is only a conduit to knowledge and skill. The onus still sits on you as a student to want to learn, to be open, and to work through challenges that face you. To be a jeweler or metalsmith you need to make, make, MAKE. Practice makes perfect, just as with anything else. Jewelry making is a learned muscle memory, and brain coordinated skill. You cannot master it in a week, or month. It truly takes years of practice and continuous learning.

Have I checked my notes? (did I take notes during the Demo?)

I learned SO much. Jennifer is a very thoughtful, flexible, patient teacher. She created lessons for me based on what skills I needed to learn in order to make the pieces I wanted to.
